Philadelphia corrections officer dies in Holmesburg motorcycle crash while on way to work

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia corrections officer died Friday in a motorcycle crash in the city's Holmesburg section.

The union representing correctional officers, AFSCME District Council 33, Local 159B, identified the motorcyclist as 40-year-old Sgt. Devon Williams, who was a 12-year member of the force.

The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. in the 4300 block of Cottman Avenue. Williams was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he later died.

Union President Eric Desiderio said Williams was on his way to work.

Other corrections officers who use the same route to work saw the accident and rushed to his aid, he added.

The Philadelphia Police Department's Crash Investigation Division remains on the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

No further details regarding other vehicles involved or potential charges were immediately available.
